The Birthday Party Project is a non-profit organization based across the nation with a prominent standing in the DFW area. It has worked to support and bring joy to children, adolescents, parents, and families who experience homelessness and domestic hardships by providing them free birthday celebrations for all ages, complete with activities, fun, bonding, gifts, and of course, cake. Having celebrated over 24K birthdays and with the help of over 27K Birthday Party Enthusiasts (volunteers), a difference is made every day. All children deserve the anticipation and excitement of a birthday regardless of their financial conditions and hardships, and The Birthday Party Project makes this possible for the children of our community and nation.
A crucial part of EFA’s mission is to aid youth
emotionally and socially, and the beginnings of Joy For
All came in light of that goal, just like our last initiative of Love For All. However, this time, we sought to extend our support to the youth in our community who could use just a little more laughter, excitement, and joy in their day-to-day life, and that’s exactly what we were able to accomplish with The Birthday Party Project. So many youth go through hardships at a very young age, and it takes away from the happiness they and their families deserve in ways that are so difficult to fathom. While it’s so easy to take happiness for granted, it should truly be cherished and shared with those around you in every way possible. By being Birthday Party Enthusiasts for parties and being present in the joyful moments for young kids, we’ve been able to spread positivity in ways further than we could’ve imagined.
In order to work with The Birthday Party Project
and have our part in spreading joy to these families, EFA volunteered with The Birthday Party Project for two birthday parties in DFW! The Birthday Party Project facilitates one monthly birthday party for each location it reaches and collectively celebrates all the kids who have a birthday in that month. The two June/July parties we got to kick off our journey with this were held in shelters, with several birthday boys and girls celebrated at each party. We were able to help The Birthday Party Project prepare for the parties beforehand with setup and preparations, welcome the kids and families, spend time crafting and conversing with the kids, take part in activities with them, photograph the entire experience and memories, and clean up afterward.
The experience with The Birthday Party Project was
so unbelievably wholesome, and we are truly grateful to have made each of these children feel special, even if only for a moment. Knowing that the families who attended these parties have experienced immense hardship and often don’t get the chance to experience the smaller joys of life that many of us take for granted, truly touched our hearts. Witnessing the purest form of joy for each child and each mother as they expressed excitement for all the small activities and simply laughed and enjoyed a birthday party, filled us with more joy than we can express. We will continue our journey working with The Birthday Party Project, and we hope to take part in sponsoring parties and gifts, as well as inviting EFA members to join these parties enthusiastically alongside us and The Birthday Party Project!
